Built-in Microphone and Speaker
The Edge 1060 (010-04598-00) adds a built-in microphone for hands-free voice control. Paired with a smartphone, it can send and receive text and voice messages through the Garmin Messenger app, and messages can be exchanged with compatible Edge units, other Garmin devices or phones running the app. Garmin notes that voice command performance can vary with riding conditions and that voice commands work in select languages.
The onboard speaker reads out workout and navigation prompts. It also works as an integrated bike bell to alert riders and pedestrians.
3.5-inch Colour Touchscreen
The display is a 3.5-inch (88.9 mm) colour touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, using a liquid crystal panel. Physical buttons sit alongside the touchscreen. An ambient light sensor is also built in.
Battery Life and Charging
Garmin rates the Edge 1060 (010-04598-00) at up to 20 hours in demanding use and up to 60 hours in battery save mode on its rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It supports in-ride power through the Power Mount and the Garmin Charge battery pack, and it is reverse charging capable.
Navigation and Maps
Bike-specific maps come preloaded, including a routable Cycle Map street map, a basemap and integrated Trailforks trail data. Maps can be added through the Wi-Fi map manager. According to Garmin, advanced route options can suggest a route based on total ascent, time, bike type and other factors. An on-device course creator is included, along with ClimbPro Ascent Planner for courses and free riding.
Storage is fixed at 64GB internal memory, with no external card slot. The unit holds 200 waypoints, 100 courses and up to 200 hours of history.
Community-generated hazard reporting shows alerts for road hazards logged by other cyclists, such as potholes, closed roads or fallen trees. Riders can report their own hazards hands-free through the microphone when connected to a smartphone with the Garmin Connect app.
Training: Garmin Coach, Real-Time Stamina and Power Guide
Garmin Coach training plans cover event preparation, milestones and general fitness. Garmin says its Garmin Cycling Coach plans adapt to current training load, recovery and course demands when the rider uses a compatible power meter and heart rate monitor.
Real-time stamina, developed with the Garmin Human Performance Lab, estimates how much longer a rider can hold the current effort (compatible power meter and heart rate monitor required). The power guide feature recommends power targets across a course and adjusts them using real-time stamina and wind data. Wind data needs a compatible smartphone with the Garmin Connect app.
Other training features listed by Garmin include VO2 Max, training status, training load and training load focus for cycling, cycling ability analysis, course demands analysis, FTP, recovery advisor, smart fueling, daily workout suggestions, Physio TrueUp and unified training status. Mountain bikers get MTB Dynamics, Gravity MTB ride profiles (Downhill, Enduro, e-Enduro) and timing gates.
GroupRide and Safety Features
GroupRide shows the live location of other riders in the group and supports in-ride messaging, with live leaderboards for climbs and post-ride awards. It needs a connected smartphone with the Garmin Connect app.
On the safety side, the Edge 1060 (010-04598-00) supports incident detection (including off-road), GroupRide incident detection, LiveTrack, GroupTrack, Find My Edge, a bike alarm, weather alerts and inReach compatibility. It works with Varia rear radar, radar camera, lights and headlight camera.
Connectivity and Smart Features
Wireless connectivity covers Bluetooth, ANT+ and Wi-Fi, and the Edge 1060 (010-04598-00) works with both iPhone and Android phones. It supports Garmin Pay, Connect IQ with an on-device store, smart notifications, real-time weather maps, smartphone music controls and smart trainer control.
