Sony FX5 (ILME-FX5B / ILME-FX5) Full-Frame Cinema Camera Listed on Amazon US – Preorder to Go Live Soon

Sony has introduced the FX5, a new full-frame camera in its Cinema Line series, according to the company’s announcement out of San Diego on July 22, 2026. The ILME-FX5B body and the ILME-FX5 bundled with the XLR Handle Unit are listed on Amazon US ahead of preorder, with Sony targeting mid-August availability.

Key highlights include a newly developed fully stacked CMOS image sensor, 15+ stops of dynamic range in S-Log3, in-camera X-OCN RAW recording, and Open Gate shooting — the first time either feature has appeared on a Cinema Line FX camera.

“The FX5 builds on Sony’s Cinema Line expertise, praised by cinematographers and video creators worldwide,” said Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc., in the announcement. “We wanted to build on the FX3, taking it one step further with the inclusion of some VENICE 2 features, like internal RAW recording and Open Gate. Features like these have been highly requested and will allow creators more creative freedom with an easier workflow.”

What We Like About the Sony FX5

  • 15+ stops of dynamic range in S-Log3 — Sony states this comes from the newly developed fully stacked sensor, wider than a typical single-figure dynamic range spec
  • In-camera X-OCN RAW recording — 16-bit scene-linear RAW captured without an external recorder, a first for the FX series
  • Open Gate shooting — 3:2 full-pixel readout across the entire sensor, alongside 17:9, 16:9, and Super 35mm scan modes
  • Three base ISO settings (800 / 4000 / 12800) — manual base ISO selection is available in Cine EI and Flexible ISO modes, keeping noise low across a wider range of lighting
  • NP-SA100 battery at 2670mAh — roughly 1.3x the capacity of the Z-series NP-FZ100 used in the FX3, per Sony

Sensor and Image Processing

The FX5 uses a full-frame, fully-stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 high-speed image processing engine, which includes a dedicated AI processing unit. Sony states the combination raises sensitivity performance compared to the FX3.

In S-Log3, the camera captures 15+ stops of dynamic range, according to Sony. Three base ISO settings — ISO 800, ISO 4000, and ISO 12800 — are available; manual base ISO selection works only in Cine EI and Flexible ISO modes, while Cine EI Quick mode selects the optimal base ISO automatically based on the Exposure Index setting.

Dual Gain Shooting, a first for the FX series, is also on board. Sony says the function draws more from the sensor for smoother gradation and wider latitude while reducing noise and preserving shadow detail. Gain is limited to the equivalent of 18dB, and the function may not be available depending on other shooting settings.

Open Gate Shooting and X-OCN RAW Recording

For the first time in the Cinema Line FX series, the FX5 supports Open Gate shooting — 3:2 full-pixel readout across the entire sensor — along with 17:9, 16:9, and Super 35mm scan modes.

The camera also adds in-camera recording in X-OCN, Sony’s proprietary 16-bit scene-linear RAW format, without needing an external recorder. Alongside the existing X-OCN LT codec, Sony has introduced X-OCN C1 and X-OCN C2, which the company says cut data size to speed up transfer and post-production.

Resolution and frame rate options include 5K recording at up to 60fps, 4K at up to 120fps, and FHD at up to 240fps.

Autofocus and White Balance

AI-based human pose estimation autofocus recognizes a subject’s eyes, head, and body, and Sony states it holds strong AF performance even in dark scenes. Real-time Tracking follows a subject automatically once selected.

Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) combines visible-light and IR sensor data with deep-learning light-source estimation, which Sony says produces more stable and natural white balance in shade, indoors, and other mixed-lighting conditions — this function is available only when recording in X-OCN.

Noise suppression can be toggled on or off to match shooting intent or a specific post-production workflow. A de-squeeze function supports anamorphic lenses at 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x.

Stabilization and Handheld Shooting

5-axis optical in-body image stabilization anchors the image. Sony states the latest stabilization unit roughly doubles the roll correction range of the system used in the FX3, based on internal measurements, to suppress rotational blur.

Active Mode and the new Dynamic Active Mode are aimed at keeping handheld footage steady. Dynamic Active Mode reduces the angle of view more than Active Mode and disables Clear Image Zoom; it works up to 60fps with a maximum gain of 26dB, while Active Mode is available up to 120fps. Availability of either mode depends on the selected codec and frame-rate combination.

Monitor, Menu System, and Body Design

A 3.5-type, approximately 2.76-million-dot 16:9 touch-panel LCD monitor — larger than the FX3’s — sits on a 4-axis multi-angle arm. It tilts roughly 98 degrees up, 40 degrees down, and opens about 180 degrees to the side, with a high-brightness adjustable panel. Shooting information is displayed around the edges of the screen so it doesn’t overlap the image, and the “BIG6” home screen carried over from CineAlta cameras gathers settings like frame rate, exposure, and LUTs in one place.

The new menu system aligns operability with CineAlta cameras and the FX6 for productions running multiple camera models side by side.

The lightweight, rigid body includes screw holes in multiple locations for mounting accessories directly, allowing rigs to be built without a cage. A high-efficiency cooling fan and optimized heat dissipation are built in to keep the camera stable through long recording sessions.

Battery, Ports, and Connectivity

The FX5 uses Sony’s recently released NP-SA100 battery (2670mAh), which the company states holds approximately 1.3 times the capacity of the Z-series NP-FZ100 used in the FX3.

Two USB Type-C ports accept timecode input through an optional timecode adapter cable, and external power through USB Power Delivery — the PD-compatible power supply and cable are sold separately. A wired LAN terminal supports remote operation and a stable network connection for professional production environments. The camera also integrates with Sony’s Monitor & Control application for video monitoring and remote operation from smartphones, tablets, and Mac.

Planned Firmware Update ver. 2.0

Sony has outlined a firmware update planned for 2027, subject to change, that would add higher-resolution high-frame-rate shooting up to 240fps in X-OCN, XAVC S-I recording in 3:2 (Open Gate shooting), an interface optimized for vertical shooting, and a frame grab function.

Accessibility and Environmental Notes

Sony states the FX5 includes accessibility features such as a screen reader that reads menus aloud (supported languages vary by region, and not all menu items are covered) and an enlarged menu display option.

The company also states that recycled plastic accounts for approximately 30% or more of the camera body’s parts, and that its Thailand and China production sites run on 100% renewable energy, though production sites may change depending on the period. Product bags reportedly use plant-derived nonwoven fabric to cut packaging plastic, though availability may vary by production period.

Optional Accessories

0.58-type OLED Viewfinder “DVF-EL1”

This detachable viewfinder uses a 0.58-type, approximately 7.07-million-dot OLED panel and cannot be used together with other Multi Interface Shoe accessories, such as the handle unit. It supports HDR display with a DCI-P3-equivalent color gamut and 10-bit gradation, offers approximately 0.9x magnification with a 50mm lens at infinity, and includes switchable display modes that prioritize either resolution or eye point. A tilt mechanism moves from 0 to approximately 90 degrees upward.

XLR Handle Unit “XLR-H2”

The XLR-H2 has two XLR/TRS combo terminals and supports up to 4-channel audio input. Dual AD converters digitize microphone signals across a wide dynamic range, and the unit records in-camera at up to 96kHz, 32-bit float. It connects to the body through the Multi Interface Shoe for digital transmission.

Timecode Adapter Cable “VMC-BNCU1”

This optional USB-C to BNC cable feeds timecode from external devices into the camera, syncing multiple cameras and external audio devices for timecode-based workflows across multicamera shoots, broadcasting, and filmmaking.

Companion Applications

Monitor & Control ver. 3.0 is scheduled for July 2026 or later and enables wired and wireless video monitoring plus camera control. Catalyst Prepare ver. 3.0, scheduled for August 2026 or later, merges Catalyst Prepare and Catalyst Browse — which handle video stabilization and color editing — into a single application.

Filmmaker Feedback

Cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC, known for “Top Gun: Maverick” and “F1 The Movie,” conducted a test shoot with the FX5. “I felt that FX5 is a camera that combines high quality image expression and mobility in a compact body, enabling people to use it across a wide range of shooting environments,” he said, per Sony’s announcement.

Gareth Edwards, director of “The Creator,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” shot with the FX5 on a project spanning Cambodia, Thailand, and Nepal. “Guerrilla filmmaking just went to the next level as the FX5 is the run-and-gun cinema camera to beat,” he said. The project is available on YouTube, according to Sony.

A New Display Structure — Flex Titanium

Samsung says its new Flex Titanium technology introduces a titanium-based display structure across the lineup, combining a titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium plate. According to Samsung, this is intended to make the foldables thinner while maintaining durability, strengthening display support, absorbing pressure and impact, and reducing crease visibility over time. The company also states the structure refines how the device opens, balancing hinge mechanics, display tension, and magnetic force for a smoother unfolding motion.

The main displays reach up to 3,000 nits of brightness with Vision Booster and a low-reflection finish, which Samsung says keeps the screen visible in outdoor settings.

Galaxy Z Fold8 — Display Ratios Built Around Content

The Galaxy Z Fold8 carries a 6.5-inch cover screen with a 10:16 ratio, meant for quick tasks like messaging and short-form video, and a 7.6-inch main display at a 4:3 ratio for reading, gaming, and video when unfolded. Rotated, the same main-display ratio is suited to longer-form reading like articles and e-books.

At 201 grams, Samsung describes it as its lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date, running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy with a 4,800 mAh battery.

The rear camera setup uses dual 50 MP sensors across wide and ultra-wide lenses. Fold8 also includes Dual Recording, which captures both the rear and cover-screen preview at once, and My FanCam, which Samsung says automatically tracks a selected subject and reframes footage into a chosen aspect ratio.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra — Built for Productivity

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings an 8-inch main display and Samsung’s Ultra camera standard to the foldable lineup. The company describes it as its slimmest Z Fold design yet, at 4.1 mm unfolded and 215 grams.

Camera hardware includes a 200 MP main sensor — now with HDR support in 200 MP mode — plus a new 50 MP ultra-wide camera and improved Nightography for low-light shooting. For video, the Fold8 Ultra supports 8K recording through a new APV codec and adds Cine LUT for on-device color grading.

Power comes from the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform paired with a 5,000 mAh battery and a new dual-path charging architecture at 45W, which Samsung says distributes power more efficiently across the battery system. An expanded graphite cooling structure is included for sustained thermal performance under heavier workloads.

Galaxy Z Flip8 — A Reworked FlexWindow

The Galaxy Z Flip8 weighs 180 grams at 6.1 mm unfolded, which Samsung calls its slimmest and lightest Flip. The FlexWindow has been rebuilt as what Samsung describes as an AI-native interface, surfacing apps, insights, and actions directly on the cover screen. Now Brief appears on the FlexWindow home screen with timely insights, and Gemini Intelligence automation can be triggered from the FlexWindow through the side key or voice.

The camera system centers on a 50 MP selfie camera with Samsung’s ProVisual Engine, along with Flex Mode for hands-free angles, Camcorder Grip with a Zoom Rocker, Super Steady with a Horizontal Lock option, and FlipShot for personalized mirror-selfie framing. The Flip8 runs on an Exynos 2600 chip with a 4,300 mAh battery.

Galaxy AI Across the Lineup

Samsung has tailored its Galaxy AI features to each form factor. Now Brief delivers personalized insights based on routines and interests, and the company says it now also surfaces security and privacy alerts. Now Nudge is designed to turn conversation context into next steps, such as checking a schedule or saving a location.

Gemini Intelligence extends app automation to more than 40 supported apps and services, according to Samsung, covering tasks like looking up tickets or booking a restaurant reservation. Gemini Notebook lets users combine notes, images, recordings, and documents into a single workspace, with drag-and-drop support in Split view for turning that content into summaries, audio overviews, or reports.

Security and Privacy

Samsung Knox protects the devices from the chip up, and the company says its Personal Data Engine enables on-device personalization while Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection and Knox Vault add encrypted storage and a tamper-resistant hardware layer for sensitive data. One UI 9 introduces an AI Assistant Activity dashboard for reviewing automated actions taken on the user’s behalf, along with expanded Privacy Alerts for background permission attempts.

Colors

All three models are available in Graphite and Cream. Additional standard colors are Violet Shadow (Fold8 Ultra), Lavender (Fold8), and Pink (Flip8). Online-exclusive colors on Samsung.com include Green Shadow (Fold8 Ultra), Pistachio (Fold8), and Mint (Flip8).

Pre-Order Bonuses and Support

Samsung is offering a 6-month free trial of Google AI Pro, including 5 TB of cloud storage, with the new Galaxy Z series. Buyers switching from iOS can use the updated Smart Switch to transfer data — including passwords, passkeys, call history, and eSIM data — via QR code without installing a separate app, and Quick Share now works in both directions with AirDrop.

Customers who purchase a new Galaxy foldable on Samsung.com and enroll in a monthly Samsung Care+ plan receive the first three months of coverage at no cost. Samsung Care+ covers accidental damage repairs, extended warranty, and certified support. On Amazon US, the pre-order bonus is a $350 Amazon gift card for qualifying purchases.

What We Like About the Sena VORTEX

  • Qi wireless charging — charges on the same wireless pad as a smartphone, without a dedicated cable
  • IPX7 waterproof rating — rated for sustained water exposure
  • Magnetic mounting system — attaches and detaches from the helmet clamp without sliding clips
  • 27 hours of talk time on the two-way Bluetooth Intercom, with a range up to 1.2 km (0.8 miles)

Intercom and Range

The VORTEX runs a two-way Bluetooth Intercom with a range of up to 1.2 km (0.8 miles) in open terrain, built on Sena’s established Bluetooth Intercom technology. Sena rates the unit for up to 27 hours of talk time on a charge. Pairing with another VORTEX or compatible Sena Bluetooth intercom is handled through a dedicated Quick Pair Button, a single-tap connection method rather than a manual Bluetooth pairing menu.

Audio

Sound is handled through 2nd Generation HD Speakers paired with Sena’s Advanced Noise Control processing. The company states this combination is intended to keep communication clear across a range of riding conditions.

Controls and Design

A 5-button interface handles playback, calls, and intercom controls. Sena’s layered battery design sits the pack closer to the helmet shell, and the housing ships with swappable faceplates in Silver Stone, Matte Black, or Alpine White.

Mounting and Charging

The magnetic mounting system lets the main unit snap onto the helmet clamp and release without the stiff slide-in clips used on some other headsets. Charging is available over Qi wireless charging, in addition to the included USB-C cable.

Waterproofing

The VORTEX carries an IPX7 waterproof rating, rated for exposure to rain and riding conditions rather than incidental splashes.

App and Updates

The VORTEX connects to the Sena Motorcycles app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, for over-the-air firmware updates and device configuration.

What We Like About the HTC Vive Eagle

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset — a dedicated AR platform rather than a repurposed mobile SoC
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera at 3024×4032 photo resolution — higher resolution than most competing smart glasses cameras
  • On-device access to Google Gemini and OpenAI GPT — two separate AI model options built into the same hardware
  • Fast charging (1-50% in 10 minutes) — usable again quickly between short breaks
  • Zeiss UV400 protection lenses — optical-grade UV filtering on every listed variant

Chipset and AI Models

The Vive Eagle runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset, a platform purpose-built for AR/smart-glasses form factors. On the software side, HTC states the Vive Eagle can access Google Gemini and OpenAI GPT (currently in beta) as its AI backends, giving users a choice between the two models for on-device queries and assistance.

12MP Ultra-Wide Camera

A 12MP ultra-wide camera handles photo and video capture, shooting stills at 3024×4032 pixels and video at 1512×2016 resolution at 30 fps. A dedicated capture LED and status LED indicate recording state on the frame. HTC states the camera includes an AI horizon-alignment feature for stills, and that camera functions auto-disable when the glasses are not being worn or when the capture LED is covered, as a privacy measure.

VIVE AI Notes and VIVE AI Plus

HTC includes a transcription feature called VIVE AI Notes, which starts recording via voice command or a single tap and uses cloud-based voice-to-text processing. According to HTC, it can generate transcripts, distinguish between different speakers in a conversation, capture photos alongside the audio, and produce summaries. The company states recordings are protected with AES-256 encryption and stored locally, and that conversation data is not used to train VIVE AI. Transcription and summarization is supported in up to 12 languages at launch. HTC includes up to 15 hours of VIVE AI Notes usage for three months at no extra cost with a Vive Eagle purchase.

A separate tier, VIVE AI Plus, is included as a 24-month free trial with purchase. HTC describes it as covering real-time AI responsiveness, locational search support, and unlimited memory capacity, alongside features like AI image translation and a memory-recall function for logging names, lists, and locations. HTC also states VIVE AI is ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certified, and that user data is not sold or used for AI training.

Memory and Storage

The glasses ship with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, fixed configurations across all five color variants.

Audio

Sound input runs through a beamforming microphone array made up of 1 directional and 3 omni-directional microphones. Output comes from 2 stereo bass-enhanced open-ear speakers, positioned to leave the ear canal open while worn.

Battery and Charging

A 235mAh battery powers the Vive Eagle, rated by HTC at over 36 hours standby, up to 4.5 hours of continuous music playback, and over 3 hours of continuous voice calls on a single charge. Charging uses a magnetic cable, with HTC stating a 1-50% fast charge in 10 minutes and 1-80% in 23 minutes.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Wireless connectivity covers Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. A companion smartphone is required to use the Vive Eagle, with HTC listing iOS 17.6 and above or Android 10 and above as the minimum supported OS versions. Setup requires downloading the VIVE Connect app from the Google Play Store or App Store.

Build, Lens and Controls

Two frame sizes are offered — M (available in Black, Berry, Coffee, and Grey) and L (available in Black & Grey) — with weight varying by size and whether the lens is fitted. The M size weighs 48.8g with lens or 42.8g without, while the L size weighs 51.5g with lens or 45.5g without. HTC notes these figures may vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerance.

Lenses use Zeiss UV400 protection glass. The frame carries an IP54 ingress protection rating, which HTC describes as water resistant but not waterproof — the glasses are not intended for use in wet environments or submersion. Input controls include voice command, a touchpad, a dedicated capture button, and a combined power/AI button, with the power/AI button also used to activate the on-device AI assistant for tasks like menu translation or getting news updates.

What We Like About the Sony RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5)

  • 24-600mm F2.4-4 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens — a 25x optical zoom range covering wide-angle to super-telephoto without a lens change
  • 20.1MP stacked Exmor RS backside-illuminated sensor — faster signal readout for high-speed shooting and reduced rolling shutter
  • Up to 30 fps blackout-free burst shooting — with 60 AF/AE calculations per second for tracking fast or unpredictable subjects
  • Real-time Recognition AF for humans, animals, birds, insects, cars/trains and airplanes — powered by a dedicated AI processing chip
  • 4K 60p video with no crop, and 4K 120p with crop — plus 10-bit 4:2:2 recording in XAVC HS, XAVC S and XAVC S-I formats

Lens and Sensor

The RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5) carries over the fixed 24-600mm (35mm equivalent) F2.4-4.0 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens from earlier RX10 models, built with eight ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements, including two aspherical ED elements. Close focusing goes down to 3cm at the wide end (0.42x magnification) and 72cm at the telephoto end (0.49x magnification).

Behind the lens is a 1.0-type Exmor RS stacked backside-illuminated CMOS sensor rated at 20.1 effective megapixels (20.9MP total). The stacked design speeds up signal processing, which feeds into the camera’s burst and AF performance. Sensitivity runs from ISO 100-12800 (stills), expandable down to ISO 64.

Processor and Autofocus

Image processing runs through the BIONZ XR engine paired with a dedicated AI processing unit. Sony states this combination powers Real-time Recognition AF, which the RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5) uses to detect and track humans, animals, birds, insects, cars/trains, and airplanes, with an Auto mode that picks the subject type automatically.

Autofocus uses a Fast Hybrid AF system combining phase-detection and contrast-detection AF, with up to 575 phase-detection points covering approximately 70.6% of the image area. Real-time Tracking locks onto and follows a selected subject once the shutter button is half-pressed, and Touch Tracking lets a subject be selected directly on the monitor.

Burst Shooting and Shutter

The RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5) shoots blackout-free continuous bursts at up to 30 fps, with up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second during a burst. A Silent Shooting mode is available for shooting without a shutter sound. Buffer depth runs to approximately 546 frames in JPEG Fine (L), or up to 162 frames in RAW (Lossless Compressed).

Shutter speed ranges from 1/2000s to 30s (mechanical, up to F7.1) or 1/1000s to 30s past F8.0, and up to 1/16000s with the electronic shutter.

Video Recording

Video tops out at 4K 60p with no sensor crop, and 4K 120p with a crop applied, alongside Full HD recording up to 120p. Recording formats include XAVC HS, XAVC S and XAVC S-I, with 10-bit 4:2:2 color depth available at select frame rates and All-Intra compression supported in XAVC S-I.

S-Cinetone and S-Log3 picture profiles are included for color work in post-production, along with support for imported user LUTs (.cube files) as an alternative to the camera’s preset picture profiles. Active Mode image stabilization is available for handheld video, using gyro sensors alongside optical stabilization.

Viewfinder and Monitor

The RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5) uses a 0.5-type Quad VGA OLED electronic viewfinder with 3.68 million dots and approximately 0.78x magnification, with a refresh rate switchable between 60 fps (Standard) and 120 fps (High) for reduced blackout during action shooting.

The rear monitor is a 3.0-type tilting touchscreen LCD with 1.62 million dots, tilting up by approximately 78 degrees and down by approximately 48 degrees.

Connectivity and Ports

Wireless connectivity covers 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac) along with Bluetooth 5.0. The camera uses a USB Type-C port supporting SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2), which also handles USB Power Delivery for in-camera charging and external power. An HDMI micro connector (Type-D) is included for video output up to 4K 60p.

A digital audio interface built into the Multi Interface Shoe allows connection to compatible Sony microphones for 48kHz/24-bit recording across two or four channels. A 3.5mm microphone input and a 3.5mm headphone jack are both present.

4K live streaming at up to 30p is supported over USB (UVC/UAC) or network connections, with RTMP, RTMPS and SRT protocols supported for wired or wireless streaming.

Battery Life

Power comes from the NP-FZ100 battery, rated for approximately 570 shots using the viewfinder or 630 shots using the LCD monitor (CIPA standard), which Sony states is more than a 50% improvement over the RX10 IV. Movie recording runs to approximately 115 minutes (viewfinder) or 120 minutes (LCD monitor). USB Power Delivery is supported for charging or running the camera from an external battery via the USB Type-C port.

Build

The RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5) weighs approximately 1111g with battery and memory card, or 1026g body-only, and measures approximately 136.4 x 94.5 x 151.3mm. The body uses sealed seams and buttons for dust and moisture resistance. Storage is handled by a single SD card slot supporting UHS-I/UHS-II cards.

What We Like About the Samsung SSD 990 2TB

  • Up to 7,250/6,450 MB/s sequential read/write — current-generation NVMe speeds for large file transfers and game installs
  • Up to 850K/1,200K IOPS random read/write — relevant for workloads that hit many small files at once, not just big sequential transfers
  • Up to 38% better performance per watt vs. the 990 PRO — Samsung’s own comparison, useful for laptops or power-conscious builds
  • 2TB capacity — enough room to keep a large game library or 4K footage archive installed instead of shuffling files around
  • Drive management suite included — firmware updates, encryption, and health monitoring through Samsung’s software tools

Performance

Samsung rates the SSD 990 2TB at up to 7,250 MB/s sequential read and 6,450 MB/s sequential write, with random read/write speeds up to 850K and 1,200K IOPS respectively. According to Samsung, these sequential and random performance figures were measured using IOmeter 1.1.0 on a test system running an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core processor, DDR5 4800MHz memory, Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, and an ASRock X670E Taichi chipset — actual performance can vary by system hardware, configuration, and firmware version. Random write performance also relies on Samsung’s Intelligent TurboWrite technology, which operates within a specific data transfer size rather than across the entire drive.

Power Efficiency

Samsung states the SSD 990 delivers up to 38% improved performance per watt compared to the 990 PRO. The company’s own test data lists the 990 at 1,686/1,697 MB/s sequential read/write per watt versus 1,221/1,254 MB/s per watt on the 990 PRO, measured on the 2TB capacity model using fio 3.28 on Ubuntu 22.04. Samsung positions this as relevant for laptops and power-conscious desktop builds handling games, large files, and everyday workloads.

Storage Capacity

This listing covers the 2TB capacity point, giving room for large installed game libraries, high-resolution 4K footage, and long-term personal archives without needing to regularly delete or offload files.

Software and Drive Management

Samsung includes a software suite for managing the SSD, covering firmware updates, drive health monitoring, and additional encryption options. An internet connection is required for authentication, and Samsung notes that performance of these tools can vary with Wi-Fi connection quality.

What We Like About the HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP 5602dn

  • 52 ppm print speed — first page out in as fast as 4.0 seconds, aimed at higher-volume workgroup printing
  • Quantum-resistant security — HP SureStart includes BIOS firmware integrity checking with post-quantum cryptography protection and self-healing recovery
  • 8.0-inch color touchscreen — runs on a quad-core 1.6 GHz processor for the control panel interface
  • 100,000-page monthly duty cycle — rated for a recommended monthly volume of 2,500 to 12,500 pages
  • 32 GB eMMC storage (512 GB SSD optional) — enough onboard storage for enterprise print management and workflow features

Print Speed and Output Quality

The MFP 5602dn prints up to 52 pages per minute in black and white, with the first page out in as fast as 4.0 seconds. Black print resolution reaches up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, and the printer supports Normal (600 x 600 dpi with FastRes), Fine Lines (1,200 x 1,200 dpi), Quickview (300 x 300 dpi), and Economode resolution modes. HP rates the printer for a monthly duty cycle of up to 150,000 pages, with a recommended monthly volume between 2,500 and 12,500 pages.

Display and Processor

Control happens through an 8.0-inch Color Graphics Display (CGD) touchscreen, backed by a quad-core 1.6 GHz processor. Standard memory is 6 GB, which is also the maximum — this isn’t a user-upgradeable component on this model.

Quantum-Resistant Security

HP built the MFP 5602dn around what it describes as its first printers protected against quantum computer attacks. That protection runs through HP SureStart with Quantum Resistant BIOS firmware integrity checking, PQC (post-quantum cryptography) protection, and self-healing recovery. Beyond that, the security stack covers Role Based Access Control, encrypted passwords, Kerberos and LDAP authentication, IPsec/firewall with certificate support, TLS 1.2/1.3, storage encryption, and a Trusted Platform Module 2.0. According to HP, the device also includes AI-powered Connection Inspector for network behavior anomaly detection and Memory Shield for runtime intrusion detection with self-healing recovery.

Scanning, Copying, and the Document Feeder

Scan and copy jobs run through a 100-sheet, legal-size automatic document feeder with two-sided (duplex) capability built in. HP’s AI-based scan workflow tools are aimed at digitizing large paperwork stacks quickly, whether the destination is on-premises storage or the cloud.

Connectivity

Standard connectivity covers 1 Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Base-T), a Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP2), Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (host), and two SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports (host and device). Optional add-ons include the HP Jetdirect 3200w WiFi 6 Bluetooth Wireless Accessory, an HP Jetdirect LAN accessory, and an HP LaserJet MFP Analog Fax Accessory. Mobile printing works through Apple AirPrint and Mopria certification.

Paper Handling

Standard paper handling includes a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, a 550-sheet input feeder, and the 100-sheet automatic document feeder, with a 250-sheet output feeder. The printer supports up to 5 paper trays total and handles media from small envelopes up to legal and 8.5 x 13-inch sheets, plus A4, A5, A6, and other international sizes. Automatic duplex printing is standard.

Toner Cartridges

The MFP 5602dn uses a single black toner cartridge, available in three yield options: the HP 159A (~5,000 pages), HP 159X High Yield (~12,500 pages), and HP 159Y Extra High Yield (~26,000 pages). HP notes the printer is designed to work only with cartridges carrying an HP chip, and that periodic firmware updates maintain that check — a reused HP chip does allow reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges to work.

Compatible Operating Systems

The printer works with Windows 11 (64-bit and ARM64), Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit, and ARM64), macOS 14 through macOS Tahoe (v26), Android, iOS, Chrome OS, and a long list of Linux distributions including Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, and RHEL.

Power and Sustainability

Power draw is rated at 704.5 watts while printing, 18.7 watts in ready mode, and as low as 0.02 watts in auto-off. The printer carries ENERGY STAR certification along with EPEAT Gold ratings across the US, Canada, India, and Australia. HP’s TerraJet cartridges use recycled plastic, and the unit is designed to be recyclable through HP Planet Partners.

What We Like About the Ring Mobile Security Tower

  • Ring Elite 360 camera with Retinal 4K — six 4K cameras (3840×2160 each) stitched into one 360° panoramic view from a single mast
  • Collapsible 12′ mast — extends the camera to a higher vantage point, then folds down for transport between jobsites
  • Built-in LTE or WiFi — stays connected without needing a fixed network at the site
  • Off-grid power options — the solar configurations pair a Ring Solar Panel Kit with up to two 3600Wh Battery Packs for locations without a nearby outlet
  • iLOQ smart lock (on two configurations) — manages multiuser access to the unit itself through the Ring app, rather than a single physical key

Jobsite Protection and Remote Monitoring

The Mobile Security Tower is built to monitor a site and flag when deliveries, workers, or vendors arrive, with everything viewable through the Ring app. Ring positions it for construction sites, parking lots, retail spaces, and event venues — locations where a fixed security install isn’t practical.

Ring Elite 360 Camera and Retinal 4K

At the top of the mast sits the Ring Elite 360 camera, using Retinal 4K to stitch multiple camera views into one panoramic image. Ring’s field of view spec for the camera itself is listed as 360×100 (80×100 per camera, stitched). Night Vision keeps true color visible in low light. Ring notes that viewing resolution can vary depending on connectivity, viewing device, and viewing format.

AI-Powered Warnings and Motion-Activated Lighting

Active Warnings call out people detected on the property directly through the Ring app, and the tower includes a motion-activated LED spotlight. Active Warnings require a compatible Ring subscription sold separately, and Ring notes the feature isn’t available for customers in Illinois due to state-specific legislation.

Collapsible Mast and Trailer Kit

The 12-foot mast raises the camera to a higher vantage point and collapses for transport to the next site. An optional Trailer Kit — sold separately through a third-party distributor — lets the tower be towed between locations without needing to break down the unit each time.

Connectivity — Built-in LTE or WiFi

The tower connects over 4G LTE or 2.4GHz WiFi/Ethernet. LTE requires a compatible Ring subscription and is provided through a third-party wireless carrier. Ring recommends a minimum upload speed of 15 Mbps per camera for full 4K resolution.

Power Options — Plug-in, Solar, and Battery

Three power setups are available across the five configurations:

  • Plug-in: Connects to any standard 120V outlet, with a 240Wh backup battery included for outages.
  • Solar Kit + 1x Battery Pack: A Ring Solar Panel Kit charges a single 3600Wh Battery Pack for off-grid operation.
  • Solar Kit + 2x Battery Pack: The same solar setup paired with two 3600Wh Battery Packs for extended off-grid runtime.

Ring notes that off-grid recharging performance varies by location, weather, and season, and that areas with limited sunlight may see reduced performance during prolonged overcast conditions — those setups still need occasional access to a 120V outlet for sustained operation, and a plug-in cable is included for that purpose.

Optional iLOQ Smart Lock

Two of the five configurations include a built-in iLOQ smart lock, letting multiple users be granted or revoked access to the tower itself through the Ring app rather than sharing a physical key. The standard-lock configurations are built for single-user access.

Ring Appstore

The tower supports the Ring Appstore, where third-party apps can add business intelligence tools or custom integrations tailored to a site’s security and operational needs. Some apps may require a separate developer subscription.
