SanDisk Optimus 5100 NVMe SSD 1TB (SDSP51100TAN-000E0) Launched in India – PCIe 4.0 x4, 7,100MB/s Read, 6,700MB/s Write, 600 TBW, 500GB and 2TB Models Also Listed

SanDisk has launched the Optimus 5100 NVMe SSD 1TB (SDSP51100TAN-000E0) in India. The drive is an M.2 2280 internal SSD on a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, rated for sequential reads of up to 7,100MB/s and sequential writes of up to 6,700MB/s.

The price currently showing against the SanDisk Optimus 5100 NVMe SSD 1TB (SDSP51100TAN-000E0) listing is the MRP, not the launch price: Rs.85,700. The actual launch selling price is expected to be lower, and the Amazon India listing is expected to be updated with the launch price in the coming days, so it is worth checking the product page again after a few days.

Note: why SSD prices are this high right now: DRAM and NAND contract prices have risen steeply through 2026 as AI data centre buildouts absorbed supply and manufacturers shifted capacity to server parts, which has pushed consumer SSD prices up sharply.

Key specs highlights include 1M IOPS random read and 1.3M IOPS random write, 8th generation SanDisk BiCS QLC 3D CBA NAND, a 600 TBW endurance rating, and a 5-year limited warranty.

A second Optimus 5100 configuration is also in stock on Amazon India, the 500GB model (SDSP51500GAN-000E0), built on the same M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 board with sequential speeds of up to 6,600MB/s read and 5,600MB/s write, listed at Rs.11,809 against an MRP of Rs.47,600 (Amazon India↗).

What We Like About the SanDisk Optimus 5100 NVMe SSD 1TB (SDSP51100TAN-000E0)

  • 7,100MB/s sequential read: close to the practical ceiling of the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface the drive runs on
  • 1.3M IOPS random write: the highest random write figure in the Optimus 5100 range, matched only by the 2TB model
  • 600 TBW endurance: double the rating of the 500GB model, with the warranty running 5 years or that limit, whichever comes first
  • 3.9 W average read and write power: lower draw than the 2TB and 4TB models in the same range, which matters in a laptop M.2 slot
  • TCG Pyrite 2.01 with ATA Security passthrough: drive-level security support without a separate utility

Performance and Interface

The 1TB SDSP51100TAN-000E0 sits at the top of the Optimus 5100 range for read speed alongside the 2TB model. SanDisk rates it at 7,100MB/s sequential read and 6,700MB/s sequential write on 1MB transfers at queue depth 8 with a single thread.

Random performance is quoted at 1M IOPS on 4KB reads and 1.3M IOPS on 4KB writes, both measured at queue depth 32 across 16 threads. The 500GB model drops to 660K IOPS read and 1.1M IOPS write, so the 1TB capacity is the first step in the range where the drive hits its full random read figure.

The interface is PCIe 4.0 x4 with NVMe, and SanDisk lists backwards compatibility with PCIe 3.0 x4, x2 and x1 as well as PCIe 2.0 x4, x2 and x1. Slotting it into an older Gen3 machine will work, at Gen3 speeds.

NAND, Cache and Storage Design

Storage is 8th generation SanDisk QLC 3D CBA NAND. There is no onboard DRAM: the drive uses Host Memory Buffer, borrowing a slice of system RAM for the mapping tables instead of carrying its own DRAM chip.

The SLC write cache is SanDisk’s nCache 4.0. According to SanDisk, the technology is what handles application multitasking and large file copies on the drive.

Endurance, Reliability and Warranty

The 1TB model carries a 600 TBW endurance rating, calculated on the JEDEC client workload (JESD219). Across the range the figure scales with capacity: 300 TBW at 500GB, 600 TBW at 1TB, 900 TBW at 2TB and 1,200 TBW at 4TB.

MTTF is quoted at up to 1.75M hours for every capacity, based on SanDisk’s internal Telcordia SR-332 stress testing at 25°C. The 5-year limited warranty runs for five years or until the TBW limit is reached, whichever happens first.

Power Draw and Environmental Limits

Average power on the 1TB model is 3.9 W on reads and 3.9 W on writes, measured with IOMeter 1.1.0 over a 10 second moving average during burst operations. Idle (sleep) draw is 4 mW, the same as the 500GB and 2TB models, with the 4TB model rising to 4.5 mW.

Operating temperature runs 0°C to 85°C, with a non-operating range of -40°C to 85°C. Operating vibration tolerance is 5 gRMS over 10-2000 Hz on three axes, non-operating vibration is 4.9 gRMS over 7-800 Hz, and shock tolerance is 1,500G at 0.5 ms half-sine.

Security and Bundled Software

Security support covers TCG Pyrite 2.01 and ATA Security passthrough over NVMe.

Two software downloads are listed with the drive. The SanDisk Dashboard application, Windows only, handles performance monitoring and firmware updates. Acronis True Image for SanDisk is offered free for data migration onto the new SSD, and SanDisk notes a separate cable or enclosure may be required. The Acronis license runs five years and has to be redeemed within 90 days of purchase.

Form Factor and Compatibility

Every capacity in the range uses the same M.2 2280 board measuring 80mm x 22mm x 2.38mm and weighing 5.7g. SanDisk allows for a variance of ±0.15mm on length and width and ±1g on weight.

Compatibility is listed as Windows 10 or newer, a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and an M.2 2280 port. The drive is RoHS compliant and carries BSMI, CAN ICES-3(B)/NMB-3(B), CB-Scheme, CE, FCC, KCC, Morocco, RCM, TÜV, UL, VCCI and UKCA certifications.

Other Optimus 5100 Model Numbers

Three of the four capacities have reached Amazon India. The 2TB model (SDSP51200TAN-000E0) has a live listing with no price information attached to it at the time of writing, and shares the 1TB model’s 7,100MB/s read and 6,700MB/s write ratings. The 4TB model has not appeared yet, and going by the pattern of the other three it will probably follow.
