What We Like About the Seagate One Touch Portable 4TB (STNR4000400)
- Hardware encryption with password protection: built into the drive rather than handled only in software
- 3-year limited warranty in APAC: Seagate’s datasheet lists three years for the region India falls under
- USB Type-C cable in the box: a 0.5m USB-C cable ships with the drive
- Bundled software trials: Adobe Creative Cloud Pro, Synology Deep Search and Mylio offers come with registration
Password Protection and Hardware Encryption
The STNR4000400 has built-in password protection backed by hardware encryption, so files on the drive stay locked without the password. Seagate pairs this with its Toolkit software, which handles scheduled backups from the connected computer.
USB-C Connectivity and Compatibility
Connection is over USB Type-C, using the 0.5m USB-C cable supplied in the box. Seagate states the drive works with most Windows and macOS systems. Reformatting is needed for use with Time Machine, and Toolkit software is not compatible with ChromeOS.
Rescue Data Recovery and Software Offers
Every One Touch Portable includes Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services, which Seagate notes is not available in all countries. Registering the drive also unlocks a two-month Adobe Creative Cloud Pro trial, a six-month Synology Deep Search trial and a six-month Mylio subscription, subject to regional availability.
