When Google launched the Pixel 6 series a few years ago, it was initially announced that Android OS updates for the devices would end with Android 15. However, a few weeks ago, Google surprised everyone by releasing an early development build of Android 16 for the Pixel 6 Pro, sparking speculation that the series might receive another major Android update.
Now, Google has officially confirmed that the Pixel 6 series, along with the newer Pixel 7 series and the original Pixel Fold, will receive an additional two years of updates.
This means, the Google Pixel 6 Series will get Android 16, as well as Android 17 stable builds, while the Pixel 7 Series and Pixel Fold will get up to Android 18.
Following are the phones that are getting 2 Year additional OS updates:
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 6 Pro
- Pixel 6
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel Fold ( 1st Gen )
For your information, the newer Pixel 8 series and Pixel 9 series phones will receive updates for seven years, starting from the date the device first became available on the Google Store in the U.S.
Google has recently pushed the December Software update to these Pixels fixing a lot of reported bugs along with new features that Google calls “Pixel Drop”. Hit that update button to check for this new version update.
