Upgrading from Reno 11 Pro? Here’s Why the Reno 14 Pro 5G Feels Like a Game Changer

I’ve been using the Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G since its launch and have grown quite fond of it. I love its sleek form factor, the refined ColorOS UI, and Oppo’s consistent OTA updates that bring new features and improvements. Now that I have the latest Reno 14 Pro 5G in hand, it’s time to see how far the Reno series has evolved.

To be fair, Oppo naturally reserves its cutting-edge features for the Find series—their flagship lineup that often costs nearly twice as much as the Reno models. That means features like Hasselblad branding and advanced camera software are exclusive to those devices. As a result, the Reno series has traditionally come with compromises in certain areas.

But the Reno 14 Pro 5G, in my opinion, changes that narrative. Many of the shortcomings I experienced with the Reno 11 Pro 5G have been addressed in this newer model. Here’s what’s improved:

  1. Significantly Better Cameras – The mediocre 8MP ultra-wide camera from the Reno 11 Pro is gone ( Reno 13 Pro and Reno 12 Pro also had this ). In its place is a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. In fact, all cameras—including the front—now feature 50MP sensors. The addition of a color spectrum sensor also enhances color accuracy, which was previously absent in the older model.
  2. 4K 60fps HDR Recording – The Reno 11 Pro couldn’t even record at 60fps, but the 14 Pro supports 4K 60fps across all rear cameras, along with ProXDR recording for more dynamic and vivid footage.
  3. 4K Timelapse Support – As someone who loves shooting time-lapses, I was disappointed that the Reno 11 Pro’s native camera app only supported 1080p timelapses. The Reno 14 Pro now allows 4K timelapse recording directly through the native camera app.
  4. Superior Build Quality – With IP69 water and dust resistance and Gorilla Glass protection, the Reno 14 Pro feels far more premium and durable compared to the Reno 11 Pro, which lacked both.
  5. Enhanced Telephoto Camera – The new 3.5x optical zoom with an 80mm focal length is fantastic for portraits and even landscape shots. It offers much more versatility than its predecessor.
  6. Better Third-Party Camera App Support – On the Reno 11 Pro, the telephoto lens was inaccessible to third-party camera apps due to software restrictions. Thankfully, the Reno 14 Pro has no such limitations. All cameras are accessible, and you can even shoot RAW photos using third-party apps.
  7. Larger Battery – The Reno 14 Pro comes with a massive 6200mAh battery, a substantial upgrade over the 4600mAh cell in the Reno 11 Pro.
  8. Wireless Charging – Another welcome addition is 50W wireless charging support, which was completely absent on previous Reno models.

Overall, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G represents a significant evolution for the Reno series. It not only addresses the shortcomings of the Reno 11 Pro 5G (and the Reno 12 Pro and 13 Pro), but also delivers meaningful upgrades across the board, including better cameras, premium build quality, a larger battery, and long-awaited features like 4K 60fps HDR recording and wireless charging. Furthermore, it features a faster and better-performing processor in the Mediatek Dimensity 8450 (4 nm). There are a lot of AI features available as well to improve your overall user experience.

While it still doesn’t steal the flagship crown from the Find series, it confidently stands out as a well-rounded midrange powerhouse that’s closer than ever to flagship territory. For Reno users wondering if it’s worth upgrading, the answer this time might just be a resounding yes.
